Qinghai University was formerly known as Qinghai Institute of Technology, which was founded in 1958. In November 1960, Qinghai Institute of Technology merged with Qinghai Agriculture and Animal Husbandry College, Qinghai Medical College, and Qinghai College of Finance and Economics to form Qinghai University. Qinghai University was abolished at the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution". In 1971, it was restored to the Qinghai Institute of Technology and Agriculture, which included the disciplines of the two universities. In 1988, it was renamed Qinghai University. With the adjustment of the layout and structure of universities, Qinghai College of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine was merged in October 1997. In January 2001, Qinghai Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, Qinghai Academy of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, and Qinghai Vocational and Technical College of Finance and Economics were merged into the integrated system. In 2004, Qinghai Medical College was merged. Joined and established the new Qinghai University.
