Ginkgo Village

Tengchong "Ginkgo Village" is actually Jiangdong Village in Gudong Town. It is a small mountain village composed of four natural villages, more than 40 kilometers and an hour's drive from Tengchong County. It has the largest, densest and oldest ginkgo forest in Yunnan. It can be said that "the village is in the forest and the forest is in the village".

In Jiangdong Village, there are more than 3,000 ginkgo trees growing in the fields at the head of the village and dotted inside and outside the farmyards. Among them, there are more than 50 ginkgo trees that are more than 500 years old, more than 70 trees that are more than 400 years old, more than 150 trees that are 200-300 years old, more than 600 trees that are more than 30 years old, and 2,100 trees that are more than 20 years old.

From mid-November to early December every year, Jiangdong Village is the most beautiful time of the year. The breeze blows, and yellow leaves are flying. The roads, courtyards, and walls are covered with yellow leaves. Villagers driving their cattle leisurely walk through the fallen leaves. It is like a fairy tale world, attracting tourists and photography enthusiasts from all over the country. swarms of people.

Every household here has its own unique small courtyard. In the courtyard, there are volcanic stone paving, low stone walls, and simple wooden houses with green tiles. Golden fallen leaves are scattered on the roofs, and red lanterns are dotted on the courtyard doors and in front of the windows. Hanging corn and chili peppers are full of strong local flavor.

The villagers have turned their houses into farmhouses. There are several tables and chairs under the tall ginkgo trees in the yard, allowing visitors to take a break in the yard full of yellow leaves, eat farm food, and eat some roasted ginkgo fruits. You can visit every farmhouse here. Even if you just take photos, the owner is used to it.

It is said that the villagers of Jiangdong Village immigrated from the Central Plains to settle down in the Ming Dynasty during the Hongwu Period, and shadow puppetry as a national quintessence was also introduced. It has been more than 600 years ago. In addition, Xingyang paper umbrellas and Jiangdong embroidery are also very famous here.

3
Heshun Ancient Town

Heshun Ancient Town is located 4 kilometers southwest of Tengchong City. It was built during the Ming Dynasty's border guarding period and is a border town with a long history. Because the small river passes around the village, it was named "Heshun". Later, it took the meaning of "Scholars and people are compliant" and became its current name.

"The mountains in the distance are vast and green, the rivers near are melodious, and under the thousands of slopes, it is better than Suzhou and Hangzhou." Mr. Li Genyuan, the veteran of the Republic of China, praised in his poems the ancient town of Heshun, which is a town with both the characteristics of the Jiangnan water town and the antique charm. ancient town.

Heshun Ancient Town retains the cultural characteristics of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Walking in the streets of Heshun, simple and elegant ancestral halls, archways, pavilions, and stone railings are scattered among them. You can feel the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of life, which still maintains a unique atmosphere. A simple style.

This was once an important town for horse caravans, a must-stop place on the ancient "Southwestern Silk Road", and a famous hometown of overseas Chinese. Various foreign cultures blended here, creating a regional culture with harmonious characteristics.

Heshun Ancient Town is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Yunnan. At that time, many people here left their hometowns and went to surrounding Southeast Asian countries such as Myanmar to survive and develop. Due to the influence of foreign culture, most of the buildings in Heshun are a combination of Chinese and Western styles, with styles from South Asia and Southeast Asia. There are also many Western handicrafts and modern supplies in the house.

Due to Zhu Yuanzhang's border control system in the Ming Dynasty, Heshun had many immigrants from Jiangsu and Anhui, so the residences here still have some Huizhou architectural styles. Various architectural styles coexist harmoniously in this beautiful ancient town on the southwest border.

With its unique scenery and profound cultural atmosphere, Heshun has attracted many film and television dramas to be filmed here, such as "Border Town", "Beijing Love Story", "Golden Eyes", "My Captain, My Group", etc.

The main attractions in Heshun Ancient Town include: Heshun Library, Shuanghong Bridge, Ai Siqi's Former Residence, Longtan, Yuanlong Pavilion, Wenchang Palace, Xinyiting, Ancestral Hall and Archway, Wanlouzi Residential Museum, Bar Street, Heshun Alley, etc.

Heshun Library was originally funded by local overseas Chinese and is currently the largest rural library in China (with a collection of more than 70,000 books). When the battle to retake Tengchong County began in the summer of 1944, the 20th Group Army of the Chinese Expeditionary Force established its headquarters in the Heshun Library.

The laundry pavilion can be used to wash clothes, enjoy the cool air, and also look into the distance to express your love for the man who "went to the barbarian side". There are currently six laundry pavilions built in Heshun during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. Laundry pavilions were built by docile men who traveled far away from home to protect the women at home from the wind and sun while doing laundry. This is also unique in the country.

The archway is a symbol of Han culture. There are nine archways in Heshun in history. Most were built in the Qing Dynasty and a few were built in the early Republic of China. Heshun archway is divided into three categories: cultural archway, centennial archway and Jiexiao archway.

The descendants of Jiangsu and Anhui who came here in the Ming Dynasty to farm and guard the border were deeply influenced by the traditional culture of the Central Plains. Ancestral halls of various sizes are scattered in Tengchong towns and villages, especially the eight ancestral halls of Cun, Liu and Li in Heshun Ancient Town are the most representative. Their architectural complex is A typical representative of Yunnan ancient architecture.

4
Beihai Wetland Scenic Area

Tengchong Beihai Wetland Reserve is about 14 kilometers away from Tengchong County. It is the only national wetland reserve in Yunnan Province. It consists of two adjacent natural lakes, Qinghai and Beihai. It is surrounded by mountains and belongs to the plateau volcanic barrier lake ecosystem.

The water surface of the wetland lake is covered with large areas of meadow about one meter thick, which the locals call "grass row" or "sea row". On the meadow grow lush Bohai Orchid, reed grass, wild grass, drift grass and many unknown weeds and wildflowers.

Mid-April to May is the season when North Sea orchids bloom, and it is also the most beautiful season in the Bei Sea wetland. Boating on the lake is breathtaking. In summer, milky white wild water lilies bloom one after another with green calyxes, bringing a subtle fragrance to people.

The Beihai Wetland is also a paradise for waterbirds. Here live dancing egrets, agile kingfishers, long-billed shelducks, and flocks of shelducks. It is a paradise where humans and birds coexist harmoniously. In autumn and winter, hundreds of thousands of overwintering migratory birds come, bringing a different scene to the park.

The special tourist projects in Beihai Wetland include grass skiing, grass stepping and fish stepping. Grass skiing is similar to a small bamboo raft, except that the bamboo raft is replaced by weeds. However, grass skiing still requires some skills. To grass is to walk on a patch of turf floating in the wetland. Stepping on fish means catching small fish, but if you want to take the fish you step on yourself, you need to pay for it.

5
Tengchong Volcanic Group National Park

Tengchong Volcanic Group National Geopark is the most concentrated, spectacular and typical volcanic crater relic area in my country. There are a total of 97 volcanoes in the park, of which 25 have completely preserved volcanic shapes. The entire park tour content is divided into three parts: Xiaokong Mountain, Column Joints, and Blackfish River.

The three volcanic cones of Dakong Mountain, Xiaokong Mountain and Heikong Mountain are arranged in a straight line from north to south. The relative height of Xiaokong Mountain in the south is 40 meters, the relative height of Dakong Mountain in the middle is 250 meters, and the relative height of Heikong Mountain in the north is 214 meters. The three volcanic bodies are well preserved. The mountains are covered with lush trees. The cauldron-like crater is filled with vegetation.

Dakong Mountain is the most spectacular. The volcano has a diameter of 400 meters and a depth of 50 meters. There are 590 steps leading to the top of the mountain. It takes about 30 minutes to hike up. There are only 60 steps in Xiaokong Mountain, so it is easy to climb up. In fact, the scenery of Dakong Mountain and Xiaokong Mountain is similar. You can just climb Dakong Mountain to have a look, because the hot air balloon ride is here. I usually don’t go to Heikong Mountain.

Another characteristic landscape of Tengchong Volcano Park is the columnar joints. This geological wonder is columnar crystals formed by volcanic eruptions. The locals vividly call it "divine pillars". Heiyu River is an underground river. The river bed is made of dark volcanic rocks. The clear river water can be drank directly.

The Columnar Joint and Heiyu River are two adjacent scenic spots. On the way to Heiyu River, there is a Column Joint Observation Deck, where you can view the "God Pillar" from a distance. Since the two scenic spots, Heishui River and Pillar Joints, are at least 12 kilometers away from Daekong Mountain, and the scenery on the road is average, they are generally not visited.

Travel Tips: In fact, not all the features of the scenic spot are volcanic cones. Hot air balloon rides are the biggest selling point here. If you are not interested in riding a hot air balloon, you don’t need to go to this scenic spot. In addition, you must go early in the morning to take a hot air balloon ride, assuming the weather is good. If it rains or winds, it will be canceled.

The main building, the Martyrs' Shrine, is imitation of the Qing Dynasty style, with a civil structure, double eaves and a hilltop, and is five rooms wide. Under the eaves of the Martyrs' Shrine hangs a plaque inscribed by Chiang Kai-shek "He Yue Ying Ling". There is a memorial tower behind the temple, 10 meters high, made of bluestone and square column style. There are 3,342 tombstones for martyrs in the tomb of martyrs.

Western Yunnan Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall

Located on the east side of the Memorial Cemetery, the Western Yunnan Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall systematically displays the experience of the expeditionary force and the Western Yunnan Anti-Japanese War. The exhibition hall is divided into six parts: the rear area of the Anti-Japanese War, the front line to defend the enemy, the Nujiang confrontation, the desperate counterattack, the expulsion of the aggressors, and the prayer for peace. The exhibition mainly focuses on actual anti-Japanese war objects, supplemented by pictures, text and video materials.

In addition, there is a Chinese Expeditionary Force directory wall built on the west side of the memorial hall, on which the names of more than 100,000 Chinese Expeditionary Force soldiers and local combatants who participated in the Anti-Japanese War in Western Yunnan are engraved. On the east side of the memorial hall is a warning bell pavilion, reminding us that we must never forget this period of history.

8
dieshuihe waterfall

The Dieshui River Falls, known as "China's only urban waterfall", is adjacent to the Western Yunnan Anti-Japanese War Memorial Hall and the National Memorial Cemetery. The waterfall originates from the Daying River in the northeastern part of Tengchong County. The water of the river flows down from a high rock of more than 40 meters, making a thunderous sound and splashing water. However, winter is the dry season, so it is best to visit in summer.

The scenic spot is not big and can be visited in half an hour. There are two buildings that are slightly older: one is a Tai Chi stone bridge built in the 2nd year of the Republic of China on the frame above the waterfall and a small and exquisite stone pavilion (waterfall viewing pavilion) on the bridge; the other is a waterfall viewing pavilion built on the mountain opposite the waterfall. Tower (Longguang Terrace).

It is the largest span steel box girder suspension bridge in Asian mountainous areas.

Tengchong is an area with abundant rainfall. Standing on the bridge and looking towards the other side, the entire bridge is really spectacular in the misty clouds and mist, and the surging Longjiang water under the bridge is like a ribbon. Tourists can stop at the observation deck of Longjiang Bridge to visit and take photos.
