Beijing Buddhist Laymen's Forest, formerly known as North China Layers' Forest, was founded in December 1929. Hu Gong Ruilin, a celebrity at that time and an elder in the Buddhist community, together with lay Buddhist believers in Beijing, raised net funds to purchase all the properties at No. 129 Xi'anmen Street. It is stated that It will always be a lay Buddhist monastery and may not be sold or pawned. The current Beijing Buddhist Laymen's Forest is a social organization legal person approved and registered by the Beijing Municipal Social Organizations Administrative Authority.
