Chang'an Huayan Temple was one of the eight major temples in Fanchuan south of Ancheng in the Tang Dynasty. It is located on the original half slope of Shaoling (Duling) fifteen kilometers south of Xi'an City. It overlooks Fanchuan from a high position. Li Bai described: `Climb Du Ling in the south and look between the Five Tombs in the north. The autumn water is bright and the sun sets, and the stream of light wipes out the distant mountains. `Fanchuan in the Tang Dynasty was a famous scenic spot in the south of Chang'an City. It was a resort for feasting in spring and autumn and summer vacation. Huayan Temple is the ancestral temple of the Huayan Sect of Chinese Buddhism.
