Travel Guide to Pabenggang Temple in Tibet

Pabenggang, which means palace on a huge rock in Tibetan, is located on the Niangre Mountain in the northern suburbs. Pabenggang, commonly known as Pabangka by locals, is said to be where Songtsen Gampo and Princess Wencheng lived thousands of years ago. At that time, Songtsen Gampo went into seclusion here to collect materials to build the Jokhang Temple. It is also the birthplace of Tibetan. The Buddhist temple of Pabenggang still preserves the first stone carving of the six-character mantra in Tibetan history.Attractions distribution:
Although small, Pabonggang is well-known throughout Tibet for its antiquity and profound Buddhist knowledge. Every Dalai Lama who received ordination and Geshe degree would come to Pabonggang to worship Buddha and hold ceremonies. Today, it is still a holy place for Tibetans to worship. It is said that Pabonggang belongs to Sera Monastery and is the place where the living Buddhas of all generations have been in seclusion. Pabonggang is also the largest Sky Burial Platform . Climbing up from the bottom of the mountain, you will pass The Hall of the Three Avatars , Ten-day Palace , Princess Wencheng's Residence ,until Pabongka Temple .Scenic spot features:

How to get there:
Take bus No. 23 from downtown Lhasa to the Military Region General Hospital Station, then walk up the mountain. Return to downtown and take bus No. 22.

Travel Tips
travelling guideline:
1. Most buses in Lhasa do not announce stops. If you are worried about missing the bus, it is best to tell the driver where you want to get off and ask the driver to remind you when you arrive at the stop.
2. It takes about 1-2 hours to climb from the foot of Niangre Mountain to Pabongka on the mountainside. There are no stone steps in some places and the slope is steeper. In addition, it is easy to lack of oxygen in the plateau area, so it is best to follow your physical condition and climb up slowly.
3. The scenery on the mountain is very good, with mountains, water, trees, flowers, cattle and sheep, and you will meet little lamas coming down from the mountain. From the mountainside, you can overlook the entire Lhasa city.
