Facing the oldest square in Florence, the Basilica of Santa Croce is the largest Franciscan church in Florence and is famous for the tombs and monuments of several celebrities in the church. The Basilica of Santa Croce is a Gothic building. Together with the monastery courtyard and the Pazzi Chapel built by Brunelleschi, it is considered to be the epitome of Florentine Renaissance architecture.

The Basilica of Santa Croce was first designed and built by Amorfo di Cambio in 1294 and was initially completed and put into use in 1443, but the entire facade was not added until 1863, and the Gothic bell tower behind the church was built in 1842. The Basilica of Santa Croce contains monuments and tombs of world celebrities such as Michelangelo, astronomer Galileo, politician Machiavelli, opera master Rossini, etc. In addition, there are frescoes created by Giotto and his disciple Taddeo Gaddi in the early 14th century. The Pazzi Chapel adjacent to the church is also a Renaissance masterpiece designed by Filippo Brunelleschi.
