Scenic spot introduction:

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Sheshan is a world-famous Catholic holy place and the most important pilgrimage site for Catholics in China. It is as famous as the Basilica of Our Lady of Rode in France. The church is located on the top of Sheshan Mountain in the west of Shanghai. Its full name is the Basilica of Our Lady of Sheshan, the Help of Christians, also known as the Basilica of Our Lady of Sheshan, the Basilica of Our Lady of the Far East, and the Sheshan Catholic Church. In 1942, Pope Pius XII of Rome canonized the Sheshan Church as a second-class basilica of the papal see, which is the second-class basilica after the Basilica of the Holy See in Rome. It is the first basilica in the Far East to be canonized by the Pope, so it has the reputation of "the first basilica in the Far East". In 1946, the Holy See of Rome granted Sheshan a special favor and allowed the coronation of Our Lady of Sheshan (Our Lady of Zose). On September 25, 1989, it was listed as a Shanghai cultural relic protection unit. Now, Sheshan has become the only active national Catholic pilgrimage center in China. Newlyweds who come to the church to take wedding photos can be seen everywhere, and weddings can also be held in the church, which is quite romantic.

Attractions distribution:

The church is located on the top of Sheshan Mountain in Shanghai. It was built by French missionaries in 1871 and completed in 1935. The church is a European "Baroque" style building, integrating Greek, Roman and Gothic architectural art, and partially adopting traditional Chinese techniques. It can be said to be a combination of Chinese and Western styles. The plane of the church is basically rectangular, with a slight Latin cross shape, which fully reflects the beauty of right symmetry and asymmetry in architectural aesthetics. There are 14 winding paths from the foot of the mountain to the top. Stations of the Cross There is a relief of the Passion of Jesus in each pavilion, and there are three holy pavilions and a nave. Stations of the Cross The temple, the chapel and the church on the top of the mountain are connected into one. When believers go to Sheshan for pilgrimage, they walk up the tortuous Via Dolorosa step by step, appreciate the experience of Jesus' suffering on behalf of others, and gain religious sublimation.
