Chongqing Dazu Baodingshan Rock Carvings are the most outstanding representatives of Dazu Rock Carvings. They were excavated by Zhao Zhifeng, a high monk of the Song Dynasty, during the Chunxi period of the Southern Song Dynasty. It took more than 70 years to build them with Dafowan and Xiaofowan as the center. It is a large-scale Buddhist Tantric dojo with more than 10,000 statues, which is rare in grottoes. The expression form of Baodingshan cliff statues is unique in grotto art. The themes of more than 10,000 statues are not repeated. The niches and caves have both internal connections in doctrine and mutual connection in form, forming an organic whole. Its content begins with the six realms of mind and ends with Liu Benzun's enlightenment and Buddhahood. It has teachings and principles, actions and results, and a complete and distinctive system.
In June 2015, the Dazu Baodingshan Stone Carvings were upgraded and renamed " Dazu Rock Carvings World Heritage Expo Park ", with a total area of 1,100 mu, of which the construction area of Beisong Street alone reaches 21,000 square meters. The main buildings are all in the style of the Song Dynasty. The streets with Song Dynasty style and the Baoding Mountain stone carvings excavated in the Song Dynasty complement each other, allowing tourists to truly appreciate the charm of humanistic culture.
