Chi'an Village in Xiapu, Ningde, was an important seaport in ancient times. It was named after the crimson color of the rocks on its coast. It is also the birthplace of Japan. The place where the eminent monk Kukai landed in the Tang Dynasty was also called "Jintai Port" during the Song, Yuan and Ming Dynasties. In the 20th year of Tang Zhenyuan, the Japanese monk Kukai came to my country by boat to seek Dharma. He encountered a typhoon on the way and drifted at sea for 34 days before landing in Chi'an and being rescued. Later, Kukai became a disciple of the eminent monk Huiguo at Qinglong Temple in Xi'an, where he studied Mantra Esotericism, as well as Chinese calligraphy, poetry, painting, sculpture and other traditional arts. Today's Shingon Buddhist believers in Japan believe that Chigan is "the holy place where Kukai was rescued in distress", "the holy place where Kukai was born" and "the holy place where Kukai believers repay their kindness". Every year, many Japanese Shingon believers come to worship. Nowadays, there are sea worship pavilions, sea viewing pavilions, Kukai floating monuments, Chi'an cultural relics room, Kukai master memorial hall, Kukaifang, and Shinzhao pavilion for tourists to watch and pay their respects. In addition, Chi'an Village also has castle ruins, Wang Youjun Temple ruins, Guizhi Pavilion, Liugeng Hall and other historic sites that you can visit.
