The Opéra-Comique was founded in 1714 during the reign of Louis XIV. It is one of the oldest drama and music schools in France. It is located in the Place Boieldieu in the second arrondissement of Paris. This ancient theater, which was destroyed by fire twice in its history, enjoys a high reputation in the French theater world and was selected for the list of French national theaters in 2005.

The third construction of the theater was carried out by architect Louis Bernier and was completed 11 years later in July 1898. The then President Félix Faure attended the inauguration ceremony. The rebuilt theater can accommodate 1,500 spectators.
