Yancheng National Protector Yongning Temple Travel Guide

Scenic spot introduction:

Yancheng Huguo Yongning Zen Temple is one of the 21 key temples in Jiangsu Province. It was awarded two imperial titles in the Qing Dynasty and is a famous temple in ancient and modern times. During the Southern Song Dynasty, Han Shizhong, a famous anti-Jin general, set up a military tent in the temple. Yue Fei went to Yongning Temple four times to discuss the anti-Jin plan with Han Shizhong and Liang Hongyu. During the Anti-Japanese War, Master Xuesong, the abbot of Yongning Temple, actively participated in the anti-Japanese and national salvation movement, and used his expertise in traditional Chinese medicine to rescue the sick and wounded of the New Fourth Army. He was hailed as a "revolutionary monk" by Liu Shaoqi and Chen Yi. After years of vicissitudes, the temple was destroyed by Japanese artillery fire. After ten years of construction, Yongning Temple has basically restored its original scale, recreating the jungle scene of the past ten directions and becoming a tourist attraction for promoting Buddhism and sightseeing in Yancheng City.

Yancheng Yongning Temple is located at No. 11 Yongning Road. It has buildings such as the mountain gate, Tianwang Hall, Pilu Hall, Bell and Drum Tower, Sutra Tower, pagoda, wing room, monk's house and other buildings. There are many historical sites in the temple. Inside the mountain gate is an ancient cypress hand-planted by Cheng Yaojin in the early Tang Dynasty. There is also a "melon well" dug by Sun Zhong, the father of Sun Jian, the first county magistrate in the history of Yancheng - Sun Quan, King of the Eastern Wu Dynasty.
