Handan Xiangtang Mountain Scenic Area Travel Guide

Scenic spot introduction:

Xiangtang Mountain is divided into two parts: South Xiangtang Mountain and North Xiangtang Mountain. There are more than 30 large and small grottoes and more than 5,000 Buddha statues, which are praised by academic circles as "the Northern Qi Model". It is located on Gushan Mountain in the southwest of Handan City and is a national key cultural relics protection unit.

Attractions distribution:

The grottoes were first excavated during the Northern Qi Dynasty, and were continued in the Sui, Tang, Song and Ming dynasties. These grottoes are called "Xiangtangshan Grottoes" because they are carved in the middle of Gushan Mountain. The caves are deep and the Buddha's sleeves can make sonorous sounds when talking and laughing in the caves. There are 16 existing caves with more than 4,300 large and small Buddha statues and a large number of stone inscriptions. It is an artistic treasure house for the study of Buddhism, architecture, sculpture, painting and calligraphy, comparable to the Longmen and Yungang Grottoes.
