The University of Islamabad is an international Islamic institution and academic research center in the modern South Asian subcontinent. It is located next to the Faisal Grand Mosque in the northwest corner of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. Its predecessor was the Islamic University in Islamabad, Pakistan, which was founded in 1976. In 1980, it received funding from Saudi Arabia and the Islamic World League, changed its name to its current name, and began a large-scale expansion project, which was completed in 1985. The school is independently run and is not affiliated with the Ministry of Education of Pakistan.
