Northwest A&F University is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Water Resources, the State Forestry Administration, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other 16 ministries and commissions, and Shaanxi Province. It is a university under the central government and a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is now a national "985 Project" and "211 Project" key construction universities, one of the 40 national key universities in the Ministry of Education's "Aiding Xinjiang Discipline Construction Plan", one of the 56 universities with graduate schools across the country, and about 100 national key universities in order to build a group of world-class universities. A member of the 111 Project, a world-class discipline innovation and talent introduction base. Since its establishment, Northwest A&F University has taken promoting the development of agriculture in arid areas as its own responsibility, and has made important contributions to the development of agriculture and agricultural higher education in my country. The predecessor of Northwest Agricultural and Forestry University was the birthplace of Chinese farming civilization - Yangling (now known as Yangling), which was selected by the famous patriots Mr. Yu Youren and General Yang Hucheng in 1934 amid the calls of the times to "build the northwest" and "develop the northwest". The National Northwest Agriculture and Forestry College was founded in 2001. In September 1999, with the approval of the State Council, the former Northwest Agricultural University, Northwest Forestry College, Soil and Water Conservation Institute of the Ministry of Water Resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Northwest Water Conservancy Research Institute of the Ministry of Water Resources, Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shaanxi Academy of Forestry Sciences, and Shaanxi Province were established in Yangling. Seven provincial scientific and educational institutions including the Northwest Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, were merged to form Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University.
Northwest A&F University currently occupies an area of 45,738 acres, of which the campus covers an area of 4,900 acres. It is mainly divided into two areas: the north and the south. The south campus includes the International Exchange Center, the Central Library, the main scientific research building, the gymnasium, Yangling Agriculture and Forestry Expo Park, and School of Forestry, School of Agriculture, School of Resources and Environment, School of Horticulture, School of Economics and Management, School of Adult Education, School of Water Construction and other units. The North Campus includes the Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Logistics Group, Industrial Group, Publishing House, Sports Department, School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and School of Information. College of Animal Science, College of Plant Protection, College of Food and other units.
