Shanxi Pangquangou National Nature Reserve, the forest area with the greatest economic value in Shanxi, is the world's rare bird brown-eared pheasant unique to China and its habitat. In Pangquangou, with a forest coverage rate of 86%, there is a large area of natural secondary forest of North China larch, which can be called the hometown of North China larch. More than a thousand species of birds, animals and insects thrive here, making it an ecological treasure house. Pangquangou is located at the junction of the northwest of Jiaocheng County and the northeast of Fangshan County, with a total area of 10,443.5 hectares. The protected area is dominated by pine forest vegetation, including primary forests such as North China larch, spruce forest, and Pinus tabulaeformis forest, as well as 828 species of higher plants. It is home to wild animals such as the brown-eared pheasant. Rafting is only open every summer, and people over 60 years old are not suitable to participate in the rafting project.
Tour route:
1. Dashagou: watch brown-eared pheasants → macaques → cliff carvings → waterfalls; main attractions: special animal breeding, Longquan Waterfall, ancient tree pagoda, Sandie Waterfall, and Three Pillars to the Sky.
2. A 7.5-kilometer forest landscape tour in Badao Valley; main attractions: Lion Sunset, Tianmen Ruiqi, Shibi Chuiqing, Great Wall Cliff, Literary Rock, Stone Pot, Shiniu Guard Mountain, Wild Boar Ridge, Fengdong Stone, Primeval forest.
3. Pangquangou→Dalumao (Watershed): Cross the green corridor, climb to the top of the watchtower, look down at the brilliance of the pen stand, and overlook the sleeping beauty; main attractions: Bird Pavilion at the mouth of the West Tower Valley Bird watching, exploring the source of the Wenyu River in the watershed, listening to the waves in the coniferous forest, sightseeing at the fire watchtower, Bijia Shenghui, Wenyuan Night Green, Sleeping Beauty, Lovers' Tree, Ladder to Heaven, and Baicao Slope.
4. Shenweigou → Yunding Mountain; main attractions: swimming in the natural meadow, watching the sunrise at Yunding, and seeing the ancient monument of Xiaowen.

How to get there:
Bus route: You can first take a long-distance bus to Jiaocheng, and then transfer to a special bus to Pangquangou.
Self-driving route:
1. Take Pinglin Expressway in the direction of Taiyuan, exit from Fangshan/Jicui/G209 exit, and follow G209 → S320.
2. Take G209 in the direction of Luliang and transfer to S320 in Ma Dihui Township.
