The Fenhe Reservoir main project dam is the world's highest artificial water-filled loess homogeneous dam. It is located between Xiajingyou Village and Xiashijiazhuang in Loufan County, northwest of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province. The reservoir is 15 kilometers long from north to south and 5 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of ​​32 square kilometers. The Fenhe Reservoir was planned by the Beijing Water Conservancy Exploration and Design Institute of the Ministry of Water Resources and designed with the help of Soviet experts Guleyev and Masokov. The Fenhe Reservoir took two years to build. The troops, farmers, workers, and college students participated in the construction of the reservoir. There are 48,000 teachers and students in schools, primary and secondary schools. At that time, it was mainly carried out as communist voluntary labor, basically without compensation.
