Anjar is the most important existing large-scale Umayyad dynasty site, located east of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Other sites in Lebanon were established around 1,000 BC, but Angel is relatively late. It was established in the early 8th century AD. Unlike other sites, Angel is an independent site.
