Wat Phu is one of the most famous monuments in Laos and the most important Brahmin temple of the Khmer Empire in the 12th century. It is located at the foot of Phu Kao Mountain. Wapu means "stone temple" in Lao. The temples are all made of stones carved with various patterns. The entire building complex is large in scale. Wapu Festival: Wapu Festival is established to commemorate the construction of Wapu Temple and the merits of King Giyakamata. Every year from late January to early February, people hold a grand temple fair in the Wapu Temple. During the festival, in addition to grand religious ceremonies, there are also many folk entertainment activities such as elephant racing, horse racing, bullfighting and cockfighting.

How to get there:
The drive between Champasak town and Pakse (the capital of Champasak province) takes 2 hours and costs 1 US dollar. From the small town of Champasak, you can take a bus to Ban Thong Khop (a village in front of the Pucham Temple) to go to the Pucham Temple for US$0.50. You can also rent a bicycle (the rental fee is less than US$1 a day). It takes about an hour one way and the scenery along the way is beautiful.
