They are named after being produced in Mianzhu City, Sichuan Province, the hometown of bamboo and paper. Mianzhu New Year pictures, together with Tianjin Yangliuqing paintings, Shandong Weifang Yangjiabu woodblock New Year pictures, and Suzhou Taohuawu woodblock New Year pictures, are known as one of the four major New Year pictures in China. They are known as the "Three Treasures of Sichuan" and the "Three Wonders of Mianzhu".
