Introduction to Boundary Monument No. 18: There is also an unequal treaty signed with Tsarist Russia during the Qing government at the Horgos Port, leaving behind the shameful Boundary Monument No. 18. In 1882 AD, the Qing government and the Tsarist Russian government signed the Sino-Russian Ili Boundary Treaty. According to the boundary treaty, the boundary monument erected on the border on the south bank of the Ili River was made by the Tsarist Russian government, and the Qing government provided the size and required funds. However, after the stone monument for establishing the boundary was made, Qing government officials did not go to the site to supervise the erection of the monument. Tsarist Russia took the opportunity to push the stone monument more than 20 kilometers into our country. For this reason, the Qing government never recognized it and refused to use the stone monument as a boundary monument, thus forming a disputed area of more than 40 square kilometers.
