Introduction to Huangbo Zen Temple: Huangbo Mountain is located in Huangbo Village, Huanggang Township, and is the birthplace of Linji Sect, one of the five Zen sects of Chinese Buddhism. Huangbo Temple
was built in the Tang Dynasty. Zen Master Xiyun was the founder. It was destroyed in the middle of the Ming Dynasty. In the second year of Chongzhen (1629), monks rebuilt it; it was destroyed by fire again under Guangxu Gengzi of the Qing Dynasty, and only the side halls and Guanyin Pavilion remained. During the ten-year catastrophe of the "Cultural Revolution", most of the ancient temple buildings were destroyed. During a fundraising campaign in the 1980s to build roads, all the above-ground buildings in the ancient temple were demolished. Among the remains of the ancient Huangbo Temple, there is still the word "Gulphine Peak" engraved on a residual brick.
