Introduction to the history of the ancient city: Shibam was originally one of the transfer stations on the spice trade route. It flourished in the 3rd century and became the capital of the emerging Arab country of Sihadaramaw in the mid-7th century. In the 10th century, Shibam City has become the trading center of the Hadramaut region and the main distribution center for dates, textiles and other goods. In the 13th century, Shibam City became the administrative center of Sihadaramaw under the jurisdiction of the Ayyub Dynasty (1171-1250) of the Arab Empire. In the 16th century, the old city of Shibam was included in the jurisdiction of the Ottoman Empire until it became part of the Republic of Yemen in the early 20th century.
