Introduction to the Four Lama Pagodas: There are four Lama Pagodas with different colors around the Mahayana Pavilion. There are different opinions on the meaning of these four towers. Some say they represent the four stories of Buddha Sakyamuni, namely, birth, attainment, first turning of the wheel of Dharma, and nirvana. Others say that these four pagodas represent the four wisdoms of Buddha, namely, the wisdom of the great round mirror, the wisdom of equality, the wisdom of wonderful observation, and the wisdom of achieving success. Others say that treasures are buried in these four pagodas: buried under the red pagoda are the relics of the third Buddha, buried under the black pagoda are Bon classics, buried under the green pagoda are treasures used to rebuild Samye Temple, and buried under the white pagoda Buried are the classics of Songtsen Gampo and the trophies of Trisong Detsen.
