Introduction to tunnel warfare: In the summer of 1940, the First Company of the Independent Battalion of the 129th Division of the Eighth Route Army stationed in Shandi Village during a mission. Due to a traitor's informant, the Japanese and puppet troops suddenly surrounded the village. Due to the huge disparity in strength between the enemy and ourselves, and the Eighth Route Army soldiers having no hiding place, 19 soldiers were sacrificed in the forced breakout. This bloody lesson made the village party branch and all the militia realize that only by preserving their own strength can they effectively eliminate the enemy. Therefore, Shandi Village carried out a comprehensive tunnel digging campaign based on the village's geological conditions and favorable terrain. In 1942, all the tunnels were connected, forming a network connecting households, houses, and above and below ground.
