Yunnan Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve is located in the upper part of the north-central section of the Ailao Mountains in central Yunnan Province. It is located at the junction of three major geographical areas: the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, the Hengduan Mountains and the southern edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The reserve is about 130km long from north to south, and from east to west in the south. It is about 4 to 9 kilometers wide, and the Nanhua area in the north is more than 20 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 67,700hm². The main peak is called Ailao Mountain, with an altitude of 3,166 meters. Ailaoshan Nature Reserve covers five counties in Yunnan Province: Chuxiong, Shuangbai, Jingdong, Zhenyuan and Xinping. It is a forest ecosystem type nature reserve.
