Introduction to the United Nations Headquarters Palais des Nations: The United Nations Palace of Nations (Palais des Nations) was built in 1929 as the headquarters of the United Nations European agencies. Later, in order to accommodate the increase in United Nations member states, the building was continuously expanded. Today The building is large in scale and its interior decorations are all works of art donated by governments of various countries.
The building is surrounded by a large garden with green pines and cypresses, dotted with monuments, statues, etc. There is a tall three-legged chair statue at the main entrance of the palace, which was erected to commemorate the signing of the Global Convention to Ban Landmines.
Part of the Palais des Nations is open to the public. Visitors can sign the peace book and purchase a "Peace Pass" for 25 Swiss francs, and then visit under the guidance of service staff.
