1. Zhaojun’s hometown
Baoping Village, Zhaojun’s hometown, faces the Xiangxi River and is backed by Shamao Mountain. There are many peaks and luxuriant orange groves. Accompanied by the beautiful and moving story of Zhaojun, walking along the Xiangxi River feels like returning to the distant Han Dynasty.
2. Shennongjia
Shennongjia is densely forested and has deep valleys. It is isolated from the world and has well preserved the scenery of the prehistoric era. The animal and plant resources here are extremely rich and it is a scientific maze. The world-famous "savage" mystery has given this place a strong sense of mystery.
Zhaojun's hometown
Zhaojun's hometown is a good place with beautiful mountains and clear waters. Xiangxiang River, a clear tributary of the Yangtze River, flows in front of the village. Legend has it that Zhaojun's pearls were lost in the stream. Attractions in the village include Zhaojun Village, Zhaojun Well, Feishantai, Pearl Pool, etc.
Shennongding Scenic Area consists of Shennongding, Scenic Pass, Banbiyan, Xiaolongtan, Dalongtan, Golden Monkey Ridge and other scenic spots. The main peak, Shennongding, is known as the "No. 1 Peak in Central China". The top of the mountain is shrouded in clouds and mist all year round. Forest belts such as fir, alpine rhododendron, and arrow bamboo are distributed on the mountainside.
Jinhou Ridge is 3,019 meters above sea level. Bashan pine, Huashan pine, macaques and other animals grow in the ridge. The golden monkey, a national first-level protected animal, lives here.
Shennong Altar
The Shennong Altar is an altar that displays Shennong’s achievements and merits. It is divided into five areas: the main sacrificial area, the ancient botanical garden, the thousand-year-old fir tree, the butterfly herbarium, and the chime concert hall. The main building is the giant ox-headed statue of Shennong.
Hongping Gallery is a canyon basin that stretches for 15 kilometers. The main attractions are one river, two streams, three waterfalls, four bridges, five pools, six caves, seven towers, eight villages, nine stones, and thirty-six. Feng et al. Swallow Cave
Swallow Cave is about 3,700 meters long and is named after the large number of swallows that live in the cave. The cave walls are smooth and clean and covered with bird's nests.
Self-driving strategy
D1: Depart from Wuhan in the morning, drive directly to Zhaojun’s hometown for a tour, and stay overnight in Muyu Town in the Shennongjia Forest Area.
D2: Visit Shennongding Scenic Area, which is the central scenic area of Shennongjia. You can spend a day here with your family. Overnight in Muyu Town.
D3: In the morning, visit the Xiangxiyuan of Shennong Altar in Muyu Scenic Area. In the afternoon, visit Yanziya or Yanzi Cave in Tianyan Scenic Area, and stay overnight in Shennongjia Forest Area.
D4: Tour Tianmenya in the morning and return in the afternoon.
Self-driving tips
1. The primeval forest of Shennongjia is very large, especially Shennongding. To prevent getting lost, it is best to hire a tour guide. The cost is about 150 yuan/day.
