Crescent Moon Spring is nearly 100 meters long from north to south and about 25 meters wide from east to west. The spring is deep in the east and shallow in the west, with a deepest point of about 5 meters. It is curved like a crescent moon, hence its name. It is known as the "No. 1 Spring in the Desert" and has been in existence since the Han Dynasty. It is one of the "Eight Sights of Dunhuang".Legend has it that when Tang Sanzang went to the West to obtain scriptures, he passed through Dunhuang. Because it was an endless desert with no water or food, the white dragon horse was already dead (the local White Horse Pagoda is the place where the white dragon horse is buried). Tang Monk trudged hard and was about to collapse in the end. At this time, Guanshiyin Bodhisattva was watching. In order to wish him success, he dropped a drop of golden water from the purple gold bottle, and instantly a clear spring like a crescent appeared in the vast desert, and there was also a kind of "Seven Star Grass" in the spring. , can cure all diseases, and later the spring was named "Crescent Moon Spring". So Tang Monk was rescued and continued to move towards the west. Crescent Moon Spring has survived until today.
