"No, it will be beautiful after dawn."

Long Beach, Philippines - sunset

I haven’t traveled for a long time, and I really miss the leisurely moments of watching the sunrise and sunset in a foreign country.

Now that you are free, then be at ease.

With the expectation of traveling far away, Kevin keeps walking and continues to lead everyone to explore the treasure trails of Shanghai.

This time, we came to Wukang Road .

There are a total of 14 outstanding historical buildings along Wukang Road and 37 preserved historical buildings.

Wukang Road was built in 1907. The original name was Fukaisen Road, named after the American surname Fukaisen. In 1943, it was renamed Wukang Road. Wukang Road is 1,183 meters long. It starts from Huashan Road in the north, where you can see Li Hongzhang's Lilac Garden, and ends at Huaihai Middle Road in the south, opposite Soong Ching Ling's former residence. There are about 30 former residences of famous people on Wukang Road with whirling sycamore trees. The Spanish, French Renaissance and other styles of buildings along the line are very distinctive, making it one of the most European-style streets in central Shanghai.

Starting point – Wukang Building – No. 1850 Huaihai Middle Road

Wukang Building is located at the corner of Wukang Road and Huaihai Middle Road. It has a unique shape like a sailing ship. It is not only the starting point of Wukang Road, but also a landmark building and responsible for its appearance in Shanghai.

Wukang Building, formerly known as ISS Normandy Apartments, is also known as Dongmite Apartments. The building was built in 1924 and designed by the famous architect Wu Daqian who lived in Shanghai. (Please remember the name of Hudec, you can search for many of his architectural works in Shanghai.) The building's arcade design, red brick walls, corner balconies, and triangular classical pediments all bear the imprint of the French Renaissance.

In the past, apartments were generally occupied by upper-class expatriates. In 1953, the Normandy Apartment was taken over by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government and renamed Wukang Building. Later, some celebrities from the cultural and performing arts circles moved into this building, including Zhao Dan, Wang Renmei, Qin Yi, Sun Daolin, Zheng Junli, Wang Wenjuan, etc.

Leave Wukang Building and walk along Wukang Road. The surrounding area is surrounded by beautiful French plane trees.

Under the cover of green plants, there are some very beautiful houses, villas, and coffee and snack shops.

The mansions on Wukang Road are like pearls scattered everywhere, but not many of them are accessible. The Huang Mansion has now been transformed into the Wukang Road Tourist Information Center and the Old House Art Center. Visitors can go in to see the models, listen to the history, and see the internal structure of the building.

Wukang Ting – No. 376 Wukang Road

No. 376 Wukang Road is not an old bungalow, but a new-style alley built in 2007. There are many Internet celebrity shops in the courtyard, such as: "Rosa Gallica" Dutch flower shop, "Coffee Tree" (coffee tree), "Globus Wine", "Franck" restaurant, etc.

The greenery is so beautiful, it feels like an outdoor oasis.

The most distinctive plants on Shanghai's small roads are the sycamore and this Wall of creepers .

The portraits taken here are so beautiful that it's hard to tell whether they are overseas.

Wukang Road is not long and is suitable for walking slowly. Important buildings along the way include Cape Town Apartment No. 240 Wukang Road, Midan Apartment No. 115 Wukang Road, Ba Jin’s Former Residence No. 113 Wukang Road, and Romeo No. 204-212 Wukang Road. Balcony, Fukaisen Apartment in Zhengguang and Taipan at No. 99 Wukang Road, etc.

go somewhere else

Wukang Road goes all the way north and leads to Anfu Road, which is also a small and comfortable treasure road shaded by parasol trees. The Duocayu Bookstore that I photographed before is really at the intersection there.

Secondly, from the intersection of Wukang Road and Fuxing West Road, follow Fuxing West Road westward to the intersection of Huashan Road. There is a Lilac Summer Garden here, which is an Italian restaurant converted from Li Hongzhang’s old house. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful, and the outdoor tables outside are also very feeling. Recommended for everyone to visit.

Above, see you next time!
