After driving 100km out of Dunhuang, we arrived at the legendary oil town, which is also one of the filming locations for "Nine-Storey Demon Tower".
The oil town is the Aksai Oil Town. This town was once the old county seat of Aksai in Jiuquan, Gansu Province. It was later abolished for unknown reasons, but our trip may have solved the mystery of the town’s abolition. s answer!
Now the town has changed from a bustling and prosperous town to a ruined and uninhabited town, and the traces of human survival have been integrated with nature.

Many buildings in the town are relatively well preserved.
The current town has been transformed into a film and television base scenic spot
We walked into several relatively well-preserved buildings and took a look at this once prosperous town from the inside.
You can see the glory of the town at that time. So why did the town become abandoned? We were lucky enough to meet two old men, who are the aborigines here and now work in the government.
According to my brother's account, the town began to be abandoned in 1998. At that time, due to the increasingly inconvenient use of water and electricity, and the government's unified planning, the residents of the town moved to the new county town as a whole. The reason why there are so many dilapidated residential houses in this old county is mainly because the residents at that time followed the principle of thrift and took away everything that could be demolished from their homes to build houses in the new county. This is why the oil industry was created. This is what the town looks like now.
After bidding farewell to the two brothers, we are going to go into the building to take a group of photos in red clothes. We will put on a little makeup first.
Get ready to enter this dark building (the former government building, where the film "Western Wind" also had a shootout)
The light inside is not too dark. We originally planned to take a group photo when night fell, but we all got scared!
Before leaving, I took another group photo to say goodbye to the oil town.
After leaving the oil town, we drove directly to Cold Lake Town to rest for the night.
If you search the navigation, you won't find the oil town, but you can find the town's official name - Boluo Zhuanjing Town. Before 1998, this place was a bustling county town and the seat of government of the Aksai Kazakh Autonomous County, which was officially named in 1955. It is located on the impact fan of the Altun Mountains and is surrounded by the deserts of the Qaidam Basin and the Hexi Corridor. The entire urban area is in the shape of a long and narrow "well" and covers an area of only 1.2 square kilometers. This place seems to have nothing to do with oil. I don't know why everyone calls it an oil town. According to local people in Qinghai, the real oil town is Haixi Prefecture. Lenghu was originally an uninhabited area. Construction began after oil was discovered in 1954. Lenghu City was established in 1959. Later, due to the depletion of oil, it was downgraded to a town in 1964!
