The ancient city of Qianyang was established as a county seat at the confluence of the Yuanjiang River and the Weishui River in the fifth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC). It has lasted for 2,200 years . It is 1,400 years earlier than Dayan Town in Lijiang, Yunnan, and older than the same town in western Hunan. The ancient city of Fenghuang is 900 years old.
This is one of the best-preserved ancient cities of the Ming and Qing Dynasties in the country. It is also the most authentic secluded city that is rarely preserved in China.
