Introduction to the Bridge of the Americas: The Bridge of the Americas (Spanish: Puente de las Américas; formerly known as the Sechel's Ferry Bridge) is a road bridge in Panama, spanning the entrance to the Panama Canal across the Pacific Ocean. The bridge was built in 1962 at a cost of US$20 million. Before the Centennial Bridge was completed and opened to traffic in 2004, the Bridge of the Americas was the only bridge connecting the North and South American continents. It was designed by the famous bridge designer Lin Tongyan, a Chinese-American, and cost US$103 million.
