Lake Introduction: Denali Park has more than 650 species of flowering plants as well as a variety of mosses, lichens, fungi, and algae. Only those plants that can survive the long, cold winters survive in this subarctic region. Many areas in the park are permafrost areas. In these areas, only a thin layer of soil on the surface can grow plants, so the plants here are not high. The tallest plant, the cypress, only grows to about 3 to 4 meters and then stops growing.
