Introduction to the St. Louis Arch: The St. Louis Arch is a symbol of the westward development of the United States. This majestic stainless steel parabolic building is 192 meters high. It was built in only two years after construction started in 1964. There is an elevator at the bottom of the arch that takes you directly to the top. The St. Louis Arch is a landmark in the city of St. Louis. It is 630 feet tall, taller than the Washington Monument, the Statue of Liberty or the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Europe. The "Grand Arch" can receive 6,400 tourists every day. Visitors can reach the top in 4 minutes by taking a bucket elevator; if they climb up the stairs, they need to climb 1,076 steps. In the top of the two-meter-wide arch, there are 16 small windows on each side. It is said that on a clear day, visitors can see the entire city of St. Louis and the state of Illinois 48 kilometers away with the naked eye.
