Introduction to the Synagogue of Rome: The Great Synagogue of Rome was built after the unification of Italy. There is a wall in the synagogue to commemorate the victims of the Nazis and the victims of the Fifth Middle East War in 1982. In 1986, Pope John Paul II paid an unscheduled visit to the church, which was the first time in the history of the Catholic Church that a pope visited a synagogue.
