Introduction to the Neptune Pool: Between 1679 and 1681, Le Notre directed the construction of the Neptune Pool. It was called the Panlong Pool, or the Fir Pool, and was slightly modified by Angers-Jacques Gabriel in 1736. After looking at its outline, in 1740, three groups of sculptures were added as decoration: Neptune and Amphitrite, Proteus and Poseidon created by Jean-Baptiste Limoine. There are 99 water spouts in the whole pool, and it has been appreciated for the number, range and diversity of the fountains on the lead sculptures.
