Introduction to the Napoleon Room: The French Emperor Napoleon occupied Vienna twice in 1805 and 1809. During his stay in Vienna, he lived in this former bedroom of Queen Maria Theresa. In 1810, Maria Theresa's grandson, the then Emperor Francis II, married his daughter Marie-Louise to Napoleon after his defeat in the war, in an attempt to make peace with France. After Napoleon's fall, Marie-Louise returned to Vienna with her son Napoleon. During the Congress of Vienna (1814-1815), she received the Duchy of Parma, but on the condition that her son and Napoleon must stay in Vienna and no longer participate in politics.
According to traditional practice, all male members of the Habsburg family must learn a trade. Little Franz learned gardening, just like the little gardener in the oil painting in the hall. The skylark on the small table is the prince's favorite bird. Son, in 1832, the prince died of lung disease when he was 21 years old. The statue in the middle is his image when he just died.
