Introduction to Infantry Square: Infantry Square (Latviesu Strelnieku Laukums) is located next to the City Hall Square and is marked by a Latvian Riflemen Statue built in 1999. It is said that this infantry regiment fought against the Russian army during World War I and later became a powerful force of the Soviet Red Army and was named the "Latvian Red Infantry".
