Introduction to Berkeley: The University of California, Berkeley, was founded in 1868, with a total area of approximately 5 square kilometers. In the early 1880s, Berkeley stood tall among American institutions of higher learning with its discipline setting and brand-new comprehensive university image. Berkeley also houses many important research institutions. Three world-famous large-scale research centers of the U.S. Energy Development Administration are located here, namely, Ronos Berkeley Laboratory, Ronos Fermor National Laboratory and Rose Ala.
