Introduction to Itaipu Hydropower Station: Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Station is the second largest hydropower station in the world after the Three Gorges Hydropower Station. It is located in the section of the Paraná River that flows through the border between Brazil and Paraguay. The two governments jointly develop hydropower resources. The dam is 7,744 meters long and 196 meters high. There are currently 20 generating units (700,000 kilowatts each) with a total installed capacity of 14 million kilowatts and an annual power generation of 90 billion kilowatt hours, of which 94.86 billion kilowatt hours were generated in 2008. It is the hydropower station with the second largest installed capacity and the largest power generation in the world today.
