Introduction to the Great Mosque: The Great Mosque was built in 1907. It is the largest clay building in the world and the pinnacle of Saharan-Sudanese architecture. The Great Mosque faces east and is in the shape of a quadrilateral. It was built not with bricks or stones, but with local red clay and branches as the skeleton. 100 thick square mud pillars support the roof of the prayer hall. There are 104 air holes with a diameter of 10 cm densely arranged on the roof.
