Introduction to St. George's Church: It is located at the bottom of an almost square shaft-like passage (22 × 23 meters), separated from other churches, and shaped like a Greek cross. It has a high foundation and contains neither paintings nor sculptures, as these would divert attention from its harmonious and simple lines. On the ceiling, each arm of the cross is intersected by a semicircular arch carved into the pilasters that stand at the four corners of the central space. Although the lower windows of the building are Aksumite, the upper windows have pointed arches with floral decorations similar to those of Golgotha Church.
