Introduction to Commander Kai: Commander Kai’s Western Pastry House was built in the 17th year of the Republic of China (1928). Kaisling was originally founded by three Shanghai pastry chefs who spent eight gold bars as a partnership. The three partners included Ling Amao, the most famous pastry chef in Shanghai at the time, and the foreman of Zhao Shilin Western Cake Shop in Tianjin. Because a warlord who was out of power helped the three choose the store, they named it Commander Kai to thank the warlord, which means "Thank you to the commander, you will always win in triumph". Kaisling was just a bar at first, and through orderly management, it gradually developed into a comprehensive Western pastry company integrating Western pastries, Western food and coffee shops. At the beginning of its establishment, Kaisling's Lipton Lemon Afternoon Tea was already very famous. Later, Ling Amao's innovative chestnut cake made it famous in Shanghai. The chestnut cake has also become Kaisling's signature pastry.
