Introduction to the gate: The discovery of this shortcut is said to have been pioneered by a black dog raised by Hu Zongxian, the Minister of War in the Ming Dynasty. It is said that this dog is Hu Zongxian's messenger. He runs between Anhui and Zhejiang every day with letters written by Hu Zongxian to his friends in his mouth. The black dog never takes the well-trodden path, but travels between the jungles every day. Curious people followed the black dog and found that the road it took was the shortest and easiest to travel between Anhui and Zhejiang. So Hu Zongxian ordered people to follow the black dog and construct a road along the route. This is the Huihang Ancient Road.
