Introduction to rock paintings in northern Tibet: In the hinterland of the no-man’s land in northern Tibet, Rongma Township, Nagqu Nyima County, is a land of low hills. Through the round hills, you can see the towering snow-capped mountains in the distance. Hundreds of shiny green-brown hemp stones in the ravine spread out from below. The large and small granite stones are covered with brown-red and ocher-red patterns. According to research, the rock paintings here were created by prehistoric humans between 4,000 and 10,000 years ago, and are the earliest rock paintings on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Carefully examine the pictures on the stones with dazzling blue light. The most frequently appearing pictures are herding, migration, hunting, farming, primitive religion, and the accompanying animal patterns such as yaks, antelopes, wild horses, cattle and sheep.
