Introduction to the Century Clock: The Tianjin Century Clock is located on a 5,000-square-meter green space around the Jiefang Bridge Island. It started operating at 0:00 on January 1, 2001. The Century Clock is 40 meters high and 14.6 meters in diameter. It has 12 cast bronze reliefs with a diameter of 2.6 meters and a weight of about 1 ton, representing the 12 constellations. The disc core and clock hands are made of flower-shaped hollows, which look simple and elegant. The base covers an area of 74.4 square meters and weighs more than 170 tons. It is made of metal and has a brilliant light. The pendulum moves up and down, the sun and moon shine. The circumference of the clock plate is surrounded by stars, Chinese and Western elements blend together, and heaven and earth are one. The heavy forged copper base is covered with large and small gears, chains, and huge steel screws and rivets. It contrasts with the ancient Jiefang Bridge and tells people that China's modern industry began here.
