Introduction to the South Tower: The South Tower is located in Tengjiao Village, Chikan Town, Kaiping City. It was built in 1912 by the Situ family to prevent thieves. The building is 19 meters high with 7 floors and covers an area of 29 square meters. It has a reinforced concrete structure and is equipped with rectangular gun holes on each floor. The sixth floor is an observation deck equipped with machine guns and searchlights.
During the Anti-Japanese War, seven members of the Situ Self-Defense Force stood here for eight days and nine nights to stop the Japanese army. They were eventually arrested and brutally killed by the Japanese army. Now, through government funding, the Nanlou Memorial Park has been built on the original site, with memorial halls, statues, archways and other features added, making it a patriotic education base.
