Introduction to Hong Xiuquan: In the middle of the entrance is a bronze bust of Hong Xiuquan. Hong Xiuquan, the leader who launched the popular uprising, embarked on the road of armed struggle as a village school teacher and led the unprecedented scale of the Taiping Peasants' War. Because he repeatedly failed in the imperial examinations during the Daoguang period, Hong Xiuquan absorbed the idea of equality in early Christian teachings, founded the God Worship Society, wrote "Yuan Dao Salvation Song" to preach, and advocated the establishment of a prosperous age in ancient times when "the world is for the common good." Hong Xiuquan established the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and called it the Heavenly King. In 1853, he made Nanjing the capital and renamed it Tianjing. He died of illness in Tianjing in 1864. The Taiping Heavenly Kingdom perished shortly after his death.
