Introduction to the Poetry Monument of Mochizuki and Hometown: The Japanese envoy Abe Nakamaro (Chinese name Chao Heng) studied at the Imperial Academy of the Tang Dynasty in Chang'an, China, and later passed the Jinshi examination. He had close friendship with famous poets Wang Wei and Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty. Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty appointed him as an envoy to the Tang Dynasty to travel eastward with Master Jianzhen and Japanese envoys. The famous five-character poem "Looking at the Moon and Looking at Hometown" written by him during the eastward journey has been included in "Complete Poems of the Tang Dynasty" and has become a household name in Japan and is widely sung. On the west side of the tower stands the poem monument "Looking at the Moon and Looking at Hometown" built in 1990.
