Introduction to the Tomb of Martyr Bai Yayu: Bai Yayu, a native of Nantong, was one of the main leaders of the Luanzhou Uprising of 1911. On November 12, 1911 (December 31, 1911), Bai Yayu rushed to Luanzhou to meet with the new army’s leaders. The leaders and soldiers raised banners together to mobilize. On November 15, 1912 (January 3, 1912), the northern military government was established. Bai Yayu was appointed chief of staff. He immediately sent his troops to attack Tianjin. When passing through Leizhuang, they encountered the enemy and lost in a fierce battle. The rebel army collapsed, and Bai Yayu was unfortunately captured and died heroically on January 7, the first year of the Republic of China (i.e., November 19, 1911). In July of the first year of the Republic of China, his son protected his coffin and buried it in Nantong.
